Project Engineer

Role Title:Project Engineer
Reporting To:Program Manager
Location:Head Office at Birmingham Business Park.

Role Purpose:Responsible for supporting program manager on all project elements including engineering design, quality planning, manufacturing as well as ensuring the project remained within budget to meet the requirements of the customer’s needs. Responsible for supporting the program manager to deliver multiple highly complex major projects.

Key Responsibilities:

General and Task Management:

  • Support all project elements including engineering design, quality planning and manufacturing.
  • Report project status against budget.
  • Work with Department Heads to plan project requirements and resources and update project resource plans.
  • React promptly and effectively to changing product needs.
  • Maintain project risk register and issues tracking.
  • Support deliverables tracking and status.
  • Produce clear, focused, and understandable status reports for change requests including cost and timing impact.
  • Track customer changes.
  • Support maintenance of Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEAs), Quality history reviews, robustness studies, etc.
  • Support Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) processes with status updates.
  • Plan projects or subtasks so they may be tracked and presented.
  • Prepare and report the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the project.
  • Support line manager with maintenance of Product Development Process and supporting processes.

Relationship Management:

  • Attend and participate in program meetings when required.
  • Help manage suppliers to ensure parts are delivered on time to the required quality standard.
  • Be an effective team member, working with supervisor and colleagues to ensure smooth workflow with maximum output.
  • Be willing and available to work at company and customer premises as required.
  • Liaise and communicate with other departments, customers, suppliers, and other service providers.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Exercise substantial initiative/judgement in work methods and interpreting goals.
  • Self-supervising within the guidance and expectations of divisional management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, analyse and challenge.
  • Able to work cross functionally and collaboratively with many stakeholders.
  • Act as the “voice of the customer” in internal reviews / meetings to get the best outcome for the project.
  • Financial and commercial acumen.

Qualifications and Experience Levels:

  • Relevant engineering/manufacturing/engineering degree.
  • Demonstrable experience of Project Management within a commercial Engineering setting.
  • Automotive Project Management experience.
  • Membership of an Industry related Professional Body would be advantageous.
  • Strong PC skills and experience of packages such as Microsoft Office / Microsoft Project.

  • Eligible to work in the UK.
  • This role is based at our Head Office at Birmingham Business Park, 0900 to 1700, including 30-minute paid break 5 days a week. 
  • Travel occasionally as required.
