Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Advisor

Title:Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Advisor

Reporting To:Head of Quality and EHS 
Role Purpose:Through the application of the EHS Management System, the role holder will promote and encourage the highest levels of EHS performance to assure compliance with legal, and other standards utilising risk assessment to drive continuous EHS improvement. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain site EHS Management system and the continual improvement of EHS working practices – supporting other UK sites when required (Sprint Power in Norfolk and Eltrium in Northampton). 
  • Complete EHS audits, report results and follow-up to ensure actions are taken.  
  • Create and communicate EHS metrics.  
  • Support on-site inspections.  
  • Monitoring and assessing hazardous and unsafe situations. Developing measures to assure personnel safety. 
  • Correct unsafe acts or conditions through the regular line of authority. 
  • Maintain awareness of active and developing situations. 
  • Participate in toolbox and planning meetings to identify any health and safety concerns inherent in the operations daily work-plan. 
  • Ensure preparation and implementation of Site Safety and Health Plan. 
  • Reviews and approves all subcontractor’s safety plans. 
  • Verifies that injury logs and reports are completed and submitted to related government agencies. 
  • Verifies that all tools and equipment are adequate and safe for use. 
  • Promotes and enforces safe practices and guidelines on site. 
  • Conducts investigations of all accidents and near-misses and reports to concerned authorities as requested or mandated by regulations. 
  • Conducts job hazard analysis. 
  • Establishes safety standards and policies as needed. 
  • Coordinates registration and removal of hazardous waste. 
  • Arranges for Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) mandated testing and/or evaluations of the workplace by external agencies/consultants. 
  • Support the development of Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (OHSE) policies and programs. 
  • Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery etc.). 
  • Conduct risk assessment and enforce preventative measures. 
  • Initiate and deliver OHSE training of employees. 
  • Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management. 
  • Carry out Permit-To-Work (PTW) Monitoring and review. 

The Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Degree or Postgraduate diploma recognised by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health 
  • Qualification and experience in Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH). 
  • Qualification and experience in relevant EHS Management Systems –  ISO 14001 (Environment) and 45001 / OHSAS 18001  (Occupational Health and Safety).  
  • Good understanding of risk assessments, environmental impact assessments and reducing risk. 
  • Good knowledge of general EHS requirements i.e. COSHH, PUWER, LOLER, Confined Space, Waste Management etc. 
  • NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent. 
  • Good knowledge of EHS audits and legal compliance requirements. 
  • Experience in Display Screen Equipment (DSE) assessments. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Experienced in Microsoft programmes. SharePoint experience an advantage. 
  • Good interpersonal skills and a willingness to work with people at all levels of an organisation. 
  • Experience working to delivery timescales and the confidence to challenge delays in process. 
  • Confidence in ensuring compliance with regulatory servicing and inspection requirements. 
  • Experience of conducting and reviewing risk assessments and audits. 
  • Attention to detail and a persistent approach to following up enquiries. 
  • Be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external clients.
