PCB Layout Engineer

Role Title: PCB Layout Engineer
Reporting To: Chief Engineer – Electronics & Systems
Role Purpose: As a member of the electronics engineering team within Sprint Power, you will be involved in the design and development of bespoke electronic PCB’s for a range of applications.

 

Key Aspects of the role

  • The candidate is expected to take full responsibility for PCB layout
  • Support the planning of circuit design and manufacturing activities
  • Define processes, specifications, and procedures that support the design and manufacture of electronic hardware
  • Perform typical PCB layout design activities including schematic design and review, part library creation, component placement, routing, and manufacturing data
  • Create, modify, and maintain part libraries based on component datasheets and drawings
  • Create manufacturing data packs that include gerber, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings and other design files for PCB fabrication and assembly
  • Provide the setup and maintenance of review protocols and design rule checks (DRC)
  • Work closely with Design Engineers to ensure PCB layouts meet design requirements
  • Provide rapid placement and route analysis to support design feasibility studies and concepts
  • Work with PCB fabricators to resolve DFM and other manufacturing related issues
  • Liaise with the mechanical CAD team to ensure PCB compatibility with enclosures and fixings
  • Stay current with PCB design techniques and tool vendors
  • Work with the mechanical team and follow company processes for release and change management of designs
  • Be responsible for quotations and the management of orders and suppliers

 

Technical summary

  • Experience of electronics hardware design and product development
  • Expert working knowledge of Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout
  • Familiarity with design and inspection to IPC standards
  • Experience of using configuration tools, subversion and change management processes
  • Experience with analogue, digital and power PCB design
  • Experience with EMI/EMC requirements and design best practices
  • Experience with order processing and BOM creation for PCB’s
